EPD on standby to provide assistance amid 'habagat'

The Eastern Police District (EPD) said Saturday, Aug. 29, it is ready to provide emergency assistance as rains from the southwest monsoon, or “habagat,” continue.

It said that the Search and Rescue Team is on standby and ready for immediate deployment to provide rescue and evacuation to individuals and communities who may be affected by heavy rains, flooding, and other hazards.
It also coordinated with concerned agencies and local government units.
“Through constant monitoring, preparedness, and close coordination with concerned agencies and local government units, the EPD continues to uphold its commitment to protecting lives and ensuring the safety of the public,” it said.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said a low-pressure area (LPA), which has a moderate chance of developing into a tropical cyclone, may enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) this weekend.
It is also monitoring another LPA inside PAR, which was last located about 520 kilometers north-northeast of Itbayat, Batanes, as of 3 a.m.
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon continues to affect Luzon and the Visayas.
“Samantala, ‘yung southwest monsoon o habagat ay patuloy pa rin ang epekto sa Luzon pati na rin sa Visayas, kaya asahan nga natin ‘yung mga malalakas na pag-ulan dala pa rin ng southwest monsoon, mostly sa western sections ng Luzon (Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon or habagat continues to affect Luzon and the Visayas, so we can expect heavy rains brought by the southwest monsoon, mostly over the western sections of Luzon),” PAGASA weather specialist Veronica Torres said.
In Heavy Rainfall Warning No. 13 issued at 5 a.m., PAGASA placed Metro Manila, Rizal, Cavite, and portions of Tarlac, Bulacan, Batangas, and Laguna under an orange warning, while portions of Tarlac, Laguna, and Batangas were placed under a yellow warning.
