EPD offers free rides to stranded commuters amid heavy rains

Police personnel in several areas across Metro East cities provided free rides to stranded commuters on Saturday, Aug. 29, due to heavy rainfall brought by the southwest monsoon.

The Eastern Police District (EPD), led by Brig. Gen. Melecio M. Buslig Jr., said the free rides were launched to ease travel woes and help commuters stranded by disrupted public transport.
Its personnel assisted commuters, maintained order, and facilitated the smooth movement of passengers in affected areas.
“The initiative was undertaken as part of the EPD’s commitment to public safety and service, ensuring that stranded commuters could reach their respective destinations safely despite the inclement weather,” it said.
In Marikina, police stations and substations offered free rides within their areas, including the Parang Substation, which assisted commuters in Barangay Nangka.
The Mandaluyong City Police Station and personnel from its substations also offered free rides to commuters traveling along routes from L. Parada to Barangay Malamig, from Marketplace to Puregold Aglipay, and along Sierra Madre Street in Barangay Highway Hills.
Stranded commuters in Barangays Manggahan and Bagong Ilog in Pasig City were also assisted by personnel from Pasig Substation 2 and the Manggahan Substation.
“Through the leadership of PBGen Buslig, the EPD continues to demonstrate its dedication to responsive and compassionate public service, extending immediate assistance to communities affected by severe weather conditions,” the EPD said.
Authorities said the initiative highlights the EPD’s continuing efforts to ensure the safety, security, and welfare of the public, especially during emergencies and weather-related disruptions.
