- Barbie Forteza explains why she has no plans to give cheaters a second chance, saying self-worth and respect are non-negotiable in a relationship.
Barbie Forteza knows exactly where she stands when it comes to infidelity and she isn't leaving much room for negotiation.
For the actress, cheating isn't something she would simply brush aside in the name of love or second chances. Once trust is broken, she believes a person has every right to walk away.
That was the thinking behind her now-viral “F–k, no” response when she was asked if she would give a cheating partner another chance during a media conference.
Barbie further explained her position during an appearance on “Fast Talk With Boy Abunda,” Friday.
According to Barbie, her answer has less to do with holding a grudge against cheaters and more to do with how she views herself.
“The way I was raised is that you should value yourself,” Barbie said in Filipino. “I support myself. I treat myself out. In a way, that’s how much I love myself.”
For Barbie, being in a relationship means voluntarily giving someone something she considers precious: her time, attention and affection.
“So loving another person who isn’t related to me, who isn’t my family, to whom I don’t have any obligation to, only for that person to cheat on me? Why? Right?” she said.
“I chose you. I have no obligations toward you, and then you cheat on me? My time is valuable. My attention is valuable,” she added.
And that is why, for Barbie, the problem isn't limited to the act of cheating itself.
She said she would also draw the line at anything in a relationship that makes her feel diminished or undervalued.
“I guess it’s not just cheating. It’s anything that would make me feel like I have been treated as less,” she explained.
Trust, once given, is another matter.
“Because I gave myself to you, my time, my love, most importantly. Then you betrayed my trust,” Barbie said.
She was quick to point out, however, that this is her personal standard and not a rule she expects other couples to follow.
“That’s just for me,” she said.
