Are our students safe in school? Atom Araullo investigates

A mass shooting at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City on June 22 left three people dead, raising fresh concerns about the safety of students inside schools.

Nearly two months later, another shooting took place at Ateneo de Zamboanga University on Aug. 18. Two people died in the incident, including the gunman.

The two tragedies have brought difficult questions to the surface: Are the government’s measures enough to protect students? How secure are schools and classrooms? And what more can families, parents and schools do to keep children safe?

These are the questions award-winning journalist Atom Araullo seeks to answer as he takes a deeper look at school safety in “The Atom Araullo Specials: What We Don’t See.”

Rather than stopping at what is immediately visible after a tragedy, Araullo examines the issues and possible threats that may go unnoticed, and the challenges of keeping students safe both inside and outside the classroom.

“What We Don’t See” airs Saturday, Aug. 29, at 9:30 p.m. on GMA Network.
