Woman dies after re‑entering burning house in QC

A 25‑year‑old woman died after she reportedly went back inside a burning house to search for her mother on 13th Street in Barangay Damayang Lagi, Quezon City, on Friday morning, Aug. 28.
Investigators from the Bureau of Fire Protection‑Quezon City’s Arson Unit said the victim was about to jump from the third floor of the three‑story house when she remembered her mother and turned back.
A companion who was with her when the fire broke out was able to escape by jumping onto the roof, but the woman was not seen again and was eventually trapped inside the burning structure.
BFP-QC rescuers later searched the house using equipment from the Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (QCDRRMC).
Her body was eventually found beneath the debris.
The blaze spread through residential structures made of light materials and was first logged for verification at 6:51 a.m.
A smoke sighting was reported at 6:55 a.m., with the BFP raising the fire to first alarm at 7 a.m. and second alarm at 7:11 a.m.
The blaze was placed under control at 7:55 a.m. and declared fire out at 8:45 a.m.
Some residents helped firefighters by fetching water to refill a fire truck battling the blaze.
The BFP is still investigating the cause of the fire and assessing the extent of the damage.
The exact number of families affected and the value of the damaged properties have yet to be determined.
Barangay Damayang Lagi officials continue to coordinate with affected residents, who are also appealing for assistance.
