Makati launches free flu shots for public school students

Health officials and workers join students in the School‑Based Influenza Vaccination Advocacy Activity at Guadalupe Viejo Elementary School in Makati City.
The Makati City government has begun providing free influenza vaccines to eligible public school students, starting with Guadalupe Viejo Elementary School on Thursday, Aug. 27.
The citywide school‑based vaccination program is being carried out by the Makati Health Department (MHD) in coordination with the Department of Education‑Makati.
Officials said Makati is the first local government unit in the country to roll out free influenza vaccination for public school students.
Parents or guardians must give consent before children can be vaccinated.
The launch was attended by MHD officer‑in‑charge Dr. Bernard Sese, Guadalupe Viejo Elementary School Principal Rudith C. Yambao, school nurse Terense Romayne D. Narido, pediatric infectious disease specialist Dr. Giselle Mikhaela Enriquez‑Briones, National Immunization Program medical coordinator Dra. Ethelrida J. Labayog, and representatives from DepEd‑NCR and the Schools Division Office‑Makati. (Freya Gan)
