Bike patrol at Bacolod-Silay airport launched to boost security, cut fuel use

BACOLOD CITY - Police at the Bacolod-Silay Airport have intensified their patrol operations in and around the airport premises, following the launch of a bicycle patrol initiative aimed at strengthening security and police visibility.
Dubbed the “Padyak ng Pulisya sa Paliparan Project” (4P’s), the initiative seeks to promote physical fitness and camaraderie among police personnel while enhancing security through mobile, foot, and bicycle patrols.
Police Major Deejay Domingo, chief of the Bacolod-Silay Airport police, said the bike patrol allows personnel to reinforce security in the area while promoting physical wellness and an eco-friendly approach to police operations.
The initiative is also expected to help reduce the unit’s fuel consumption amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
The program is being implemented under the supervision of Police Col. Alex Dimaculangan, chief of the Aviation Security Unit-Negros Island Region (NIR).
As part of the launching activities, police personnel also distributed rice to airport security guards through the station’s community outreach program, highlighting the unit’s commitment to public service and stronger partnerships with airport stakeholders.
The Bacolod-Silay Airport currently has 11 bicycles for the patrol initiative. Similar bike patrol operations are also being implemented in Negros Oriental, with two bicycles assigned in Dumaguete City and two in Siquijor.
Domingo said bike patrols at the airport will be conducted randomly to avoid establishing a predictable pattern and further strengthen security operations.
