Three family members were critically injured after an LPG tank exploded inside their apartment in Barangay Bagbaguin, Valenzuela City, on Thursday morning, Aug. 27.

The victims were identified as aliases “Rodolfo,” a senior citizen, and his two children, “Roderick” and “Lodivina,” who sustained burns and suffered smoke inhalation during the explosion.

Authorities said the three were rushed to a hospital.

The explosion also damaged nearby properties.

Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage showed a parked motorcycle being knocked off balance as several items were scattered by the force of the blast.

The explosion dislodged the window grills of a nearby house and sparked a fire that gutted the apartment unit.

Residents, barangay personnel, Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) members, and fire volunteers worked together to put out the blaze.

Authorities are looking into a possible LPG leak as the cause of the explosion.

Responding fire volunteers said gas may have accumulated inside the enclosed apartment before igniting.

The BFP is continuing its investigation into the incident.

The Valenzuela City government, meanwhile, assured the victims’ family of assistance as they recover.
