Naval Command intercepts smuggled fuel, cigarettes

ZAMBOANGA CITY – About P147 million worth of smuggled fuel and cigarettes were intercepted by the Naval Command Western Mindanao during separate maritime operations in Zamboanga City and Sulu Province.
On Aug. 22, command personnel intercepted an unmarked motorboat off Barangay Labuan, Zamboanga City, allegedly carrying undocumented diesel fuel. The vessel and its cargo were valued at P52.27 million.

On Aug. 24, naval forces intercepted the M/B Jiboy off Pangasinan Island in Sulu Province.
The motorboat was reportedly loaded with 611 cases and 37 reams of undocumented imported cigarettes. The tobacco and the vessel were worth P95.01 million.
The contraband, with a combined value of P147.29 million, was turned over to the Bureau of Customs in Zamboanga City for disposition.
Rear Admiral Constancio Arturo M. Reyes Jr. said the command will sustain maritime security operations to disrupt smuggling networks.
