Mayor Isko to Manila youth: Keep Filipino values alive in tech age

Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso on Thursday, Aug. 27, urged young Manileños to preserve traditions of respect and gratitude, stressing that love for elders and appreciation for parents must remain strong even as technology reshapes the city.
Speaking at “Teknolodi Fest 2.0” at the San Andres Sports Complex, Domagoso reminded the youth that Filipino values should endure despite the fast-changing digital landscape.
“Kahit tayo ay nasa highly urbanized city (Even if we live in a highly urbanized city), we love our elders, we value our elders, we value and love our parents and we know who we are,” he said.
He urged young people to express affection while they still have the chance.
“Wag niyong sayangin itong oportunidad na ’yun (Do not waste the opportunity) to say the words ‘I love you,’ say ‘thank you,’” he added.
Domagoso cautioned against entitlement, urging recognition of parental sacrifices.
Raised as an only child who lost his parents early, he said his journey was built on hard work and gratitude.
“Kung hindi ko ginamit ang sipag at abilidad at paglingon sa aking mga nakasama, malamang wala po sa harapan ninyo (If I had not used diligence, ability, and gratitude toward those who were with me, I would likely not be standing before you today),” he shared.
