CEBU CITY — An eight‑year‑old boy died while his 63‑year‑old grandmother was injured after they were hit by a truck in Balamban, Cebu.
Police said the victims were about to cross the road when the accident occurred past 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 27.
Investigators reported that the driver of a Fuso Canter truck tried to start the engine of the vehicle, which was parked near the town’s public market.
The engine failed to start, prompting the driver to disembark and inspect the battery.
The truck suddenly moved forward and struck the two victims.
Both were rushed to the Cebu Provincial Hospital‑Balamban, where the boy later died.
Police arrested the truck driver following the incident.
