16 Parañaque barangays keep drug-cleared status

Parañaque City’s 16 barangays have retained their drug-cleared status, with the city government citing sustained community-based prevention, education, and rehabilitation programs as key to keeping illegal drugs out of local communities.
Mayor Edwin Olivarez said the accomplishment shows that the city’s anti-drug efforts are being carried out from the city level down to barangays, families, and schools.
Records from the Parañaque Anti-Drug Abuse Office showed that 2,122 residents were reached through the Family Drug Abuse Prevention Program from May 13 to July 17.
Another 690 elementary and high school students were reached through drug abuse awareness activities conducted in schools from March to June.
More than 100 former drug users also joined livelihood and skills training programs intended to help them gain new skills and sources of income.
Olivarez said the city government will continue implementing programs to prevent drug abuse and support residents who are seeking to turn their lives around.
He also called for continued cooperation among government agencies, barangays, families, schools, and residents to preserve the drug-cleared status of all 16 barangays.
“Let us continue maintaining the drug-cleared status of our 16 barangays. Rest assured that we will all work together for a better future for our residents and especially our children and youth,” Olivarez said.
