Suspected 'Akyat Bahay' robber killed, cohort nabbed in Binondo

A suspected “Akyat-Bahay” robber was killed in an alleged shootout with police after being caught scaling a building, while his cohort was arrested in Binondo, Manila, on Tuesday night, Aug. 25.
The Manila Police District (MPD) identified the slain suspect as alias “Rhenzy,” while the arrested suspect was alias “Rosalino,” 41.
Police said the incident occurred around 10:35 p.m. on the third floor of a building at the corner of Muelle de Binondo and San Fernando streets.
According to the initial report, MPD personnel were on patrol when a concerned citizen reported several individuals allegedly climbing the upper portion of Bahay Kastila Panciteria.
Responding officers proceeded to the area and allegedly caught two men scaling a nearby building.
When police identified themselves and attempted to apprehend the suspects, Rhenzy reportedly fled toward the San Fernando Building.
Officers, together with barangay watchmen from Barangay 287, pursued him.
Upon reaching the third floor, Rhenzy allegedly drew a firearm and fired at the pursuing officers, prompting them to return fire.
The suspect sustained gunshot wounds and was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead.
Authorities said Rhenzy was allegedly a member of the Commando Gang.
Police added that Rosalino will face appropriate charges. (Shane Quiachon)
