P5.6-M worth of smuggled cigarettes seized in Zamboanga, Sulu

ZAMBOANGA CITY- Authorities seized more than P5 million worth of smuggled cigarettes during separate operations in Zamboanga City and Sulu from August 22 to 24.

Last August 22, police seized 385 reams of cigarettes valued at P1.15-million along the shoreline of barangay Sinunuc in Zamboanga City. An abandoned motor boat was also recovered.

Later that day, police seized 20 master cases of cigarettes worth P1.146-million in Barangay Buansa, Indanan, Sulu. Authorities acted on a tip given by a concerned citizen.

Two days later, police seized P3.3-million worth of smuggled cigarettes along the shoreline of Barangay Ayala. Two persons manning the boat were also taken into custody by police.

The contraband was turned over to the Bureau of Customs port of Zamboanga for disposition.
