Leptospirosis, dengue cases posing major challenges to Region 1 Medical Center

DAGUPAN CITY --The rising number of leptospirosis and dengue cases has become the major health concerns currently being addressed by the Region 1 Medical Center (R1MC), according to Center Chief Dr. Roland Joseph Mejia.
In an interview, Mejia said the hospital’s wards are now currently fully occupied due to the continued influx of patients.
To help address the situation, the medical center has acquired an additional 150 emergency beds.
Mejia reported that 38 leptospirosis cases were recorded at the hospital as of Wednesday, while two dengue patients remained under treatment.
Beyond medical care, R1MC is strengthening its health advocacy efforts through education and promotion lectures in hospital wards and the outpatient department (OPD) to raise awareness among patients and their families.
The medical team is also conducting health awareness lectures in Calasiao, Mangaldan and Dagupan, particularly in communities affected by flooding.
Emergency kits are likewise being distributed as part of preparedness efforts.
According to Mejia, Dagupan and Mangaldan are among the areas most affected, with several cases also reported in Calasiao.
He urged residents, particularly those exposed to floodwaters, to take precautions and seek immediate medical attention if symptoms of leptospirosis or dengue develop.
