TABUK CITY, Kalinga — A 31-year-old farmer was shot and killed following an argument with his drinking buddy in Barangay Bagumbayan here early Tuesday morning, August 25.
Police said the victim, a married resident of the barangay, was drinking with a 30-year-old farmer, who is single and also a resident of the area, when an altercation broke out at around 3:20 a.m. in Sitio Banagan Upper.
The argument reportedly escalated, prompting the suspect to allegedly shoot the victim several times using a suspected M16 rifle.
Responding authorities found the victim lying on the ground with gunshot wounds to his head and right arm. He was declared dead following the incident.
Police recovered several fired 5.56mm cartridge cases at the scene, which were subsequently processed by personnel of the Kalinga Scene of the Crime Operatives.
Authorities are continuing their investigation, while a manhunt operation has been launched for the suspect.
Police have withheld the identities of the victim and suspect and other details pending the ongoing investigation.
