Philippines wins first gold medal at International Olympiad in Informatics

The Philippines won its first gold medal at the 38th International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
The IOI is an algorithmic competition for high school students “to sharpen their informatics skills – such as problem analysis, design of algorithms and data structures, programming, and testing.”
The Philippine team brought home one gold medal and two bronze medals.
The country’s first-ever IOI gold medal since it began competing in 2015 was won by Jerome Austin Te of Jubilee Christian Academy.
This is Te’s fourth consecutive medal at the IOI. He previously won bronze medals in 2023 and 2025, and a silver medal in 2024.
“From bronze to silver to gold — a true testament to consistency, growth, and hard work. Congratulations, Jerome, for making history and making the Philippines proud,” the National Olympiad in Informatics Philippines said in its congratulatory message.
Winning bronze medals were John Lorenz Nunez of QAT Blended Learning Middle East and EdRonn James Panti of the Philippine Science High School–Main Campus.
Also representing the country was Prince Desmond Dela Cruz of De La Salle University Manila.
Before the IOI, Te won a silver medal at the 67th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) in Shanghai, China, in July.
