Missing fishermen rescued in Ragay Gulf

SAN ANDRES, Quezon- The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) San Andres, and local volunteers rescued two reported missing fishermen in the vicinity of Ragay Gulf between San Andres, Quezon and Pasacao, Camarines Sur on Monday, August 24.

The PCG report identified them as Dionesio De Leon and his son Raymond, who were located at around 2:30 p.m. onboard fishing banca FBCA Loribeth, one nautical mile from Alibijaban Island, San Andres, Quezon.

Both were safely assisted and brought to San Andres Port, where they underwent an initial medical assessment, and were found to have no apparent injuries or illnesses. Food, drinking water, and dry clothing were likewise provided.

According to the fishermen, they encountered propeller malfunction while returning from their usual fishing grounds, causing their banca to drift toward the waters off Pasacao, Camarines Sur.

After troubleshooting and restoring the engine, they proceeded toward San Andres, where they were subsequently located by the joint Search and Rescue team.

The Philippine Coast Guard reminded all fishermen and maritime stakeholders to ensure proper vessel registration, regularly monitor weather conditions, maintain their vessels and engines, carry reliable communication equipment, and inform their families or concerned authorities of their fishing locations to facilitate timely assistance during emergencies.
