The Manila City government officially renamed Ospital ng Sampaloc (OSSAM) as the Mayor Ramon Bagatsing General Hospital on Tuesday, Aug. 25, in honor of the late mayor’s contribution to the city.
According to the city's Public Information Office (MPIO), Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso led the renaming ceremony together with Vice Mayor Chi Atienza and members of the Bagatsing family.
Bagatsing served as Manila mayor from 1972 to 1986 and was recognized for his contributions to public service, particularly in healthcare and education,
Among the initiatives attributed to his administration was the establishment of the College of Medicine at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM).
Domagoso said renaming the hospital after Bagatsing serves as a tribute to his years of service to Manileños.
“Sa pamilya Bagatsing, on behalf of the people of Manila, thank you sa tatay niyo (To the Bagatsing family, on behalf of the people of Manila, thank you to your father),” he said. (Shane Quiachon)
