Former Cebu governor makes rare public appearance, shuns any talk of politics

CEBU CITY–Former Cebu governor Gwendolyn Garcia made a rare public appearance on Monday, Aug. 25, but refused to talk about politics.
Garcia said talking about politics is not going to be “productive” when the country is beset with many problems.
“It's not going to help the people who need help,” Garcia said.
Garcia hosted a media event where she introduced GFG Institute, an institution she put up offering 18 diploma courses.
Garcia said she has been so busy with the GFG Institute that she has no more time engaging in politics.
“I've been so busy really focusing on the curriculum, and preparing all of the documents, and meeting with potential trainers, as well as program heads, that, sorry to say, wala na gyud ko mag-apil-apil og huna-huna ana (I have not involved myself and think about that ,” Garcia said.
Garcia lost in her reelection bid to neophyte Pamela Baricuatro in the 2025 elections.
Garcia’s brother, Pablo John, has announced his intention to run for governor in the 2028 elections.
Pablo John disclosed that he has received reports that his sister would not be endorsing him but Ako Bisaya Party-list Rep. Sony Lagon instead.
The former governor refused to comment on her brother’s pronouncements. She also refused to comment on the current provincial government.
“For me, it’s not productive that I would be monitoring their affairs. It's not productive. It's not going to help the people who need help,” Garcia said in a mix of Cebuano and English.
The ex-governor, however, thanked Lagon for lending her a chopper when she recently traveled to Ormoc City.
