Seven-member K-pop girl group TUIDE made their debut on Aug. 24 with the mini-album “Tune & Play." They expressed excitement for the start of their Kpop journey.

Debuting under ABD (A Bold Dream), a new label under HYBE Music Group, TUIDE is composed of members Seohee, Seoyeon, Elena, Jia, Saki, Seah and Yi Hani.

The group’s name was inspired by the phrase “Tune the tide” and their debut album encapsulates the beginning of their journey.

The album is led by the single “Sun Kiss,” which vividly embodies the project's signature “Soultronic” sound, a combination of emotional soul melodies and stylish electronic textures.

Han Sung-soo, the creative mastermind behind artists Seventeen, IZ*ONE, and TWS, led TUIDE’s overall production, music, concept, and performance.

In line with their debut, TUIDE held a media showcase for “Tune & Play” at Yes24 Live Hall in Seoul.

On the qualities of TUIDE and advice given by Han Sung-soo, Jia said, “I think I would just like to highlight our unique style of music called Soultronic. If you listen to the five tracks on our debut EP, they're all different in genre, but all bright and energetic while also feeling relaxed, having that laid-back feel to them. And I think that blend of energy and ease is what defines TUIDE Soultronic.”

Seohee said Han Sung-soo always reminded them “to be grateful and kind to the people around us who help and support us no matter the situation. So, we've kept that gratitude in mind every step of the way.”

On using Soultronic genre for the album, Seohee said it is “all about that warmth of soul and also that very sophisticated style of electronic [music]. So, it's a good blend of those two genres.”

Saki added that the charm of Soulronic is the groovy beat and the sophisticated vibe and also very catchy melodies.

Pop singer Janet Jackson is listed as one of the composers of TUIDE’s song “Echo.”

Member Elena explained that Jackson is in the credits as “Echo” as they used a melody from her “All for You” song.

“Echo” adopted an interpolation, reimagining and modifying parts of the melody from “All for You,' which topped the Billboard Hot 100 in 2001.

Seah described their album as “laidback,” saying “because it's all about sticking to our own rhythm and pace and enjoying that whole experience. All five tracks in the album are bubbly and vibrant and also very easy to listen to. So, I think it would give you a breather in your busy day-to-day life.”

On what the name TUIDE represents for them, Seoyeon said joy while Seohee chose vivid.

Seoyeon is the younger sister of TWICE member Jihyo.

“Jihyo of TWICE is my sister and she told me that you are going to see the members all the time even more than you see your family, so you guys have to stick together and you know be there for each other,” she said.

As the showcase ended, Seohee and Seoyeon expressed their hopes and goals for their debut album.

“We will always remember the love and support you've shown us and give our very best every step of the way as TUIDE,” said Seohee.

Seoyeon said, “Like our name TUIDE implies, we hope to tune the tides of the world and create new forms of joy through our music. We hope you'll also tune in to see where we go from here.”
