President Marcos has visited an evacuation center in Bacolor, Pampanga, to check on flood-affected families and oversee the government's continuing relief efforts as thousands remain displaced across the province.

Marcos visited the Bacolor Integrated School Evacuation Center in Barangay Cabambangan on Monday, Aug. 24, where he spoke with evacuees and observed the distribution of P10,000 cash assistance to heads of affected families under the Department of Social Welfare and Development's (DSWD) Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program.

As of Aug. 23, about 216 families, or 836 individuals, had been staying at the evacuation center for 16 consecutive days.

Before the President's arrival, the DSWD had distributed family food packs and served hot meals through its Mobile Kitchen.

There were 11 active evacuation centers in Bacolor serving 559 families, or 2,221 individuals, according to authorities.

Marcos was accompanied by Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian, Pampanga Vice Governor Dennis Pineda, Bacolor Mayor Eduardo Datu, and other national and local government officials.

In Pampanga, the DSWD reported that 315,807 families, or about 1.01 million individuals, were affected by the enhanced Southwest Monsoon and tropical cyclones Luis, Maymay, and Neneng, with 3,118 families, or 11,308 individuals, still staying in evacuation centers.

Flooding was reported in several cities and municipalities across the province, while 10 roads, government facilities, and flood-control structures were damaged, along with four totally damaged houses and 47 partially damaged houses.

Agricultural losses and damage were estimated at P423.84 million, affecting 8,742 farmers and fisherfolk, prompting authorities to declare a state of calamity throughout Pampanga on Aug. 12.

The DSWD has provided P243.37 million worth of assistance to affected families and made available P2.63 million in standby funds and 127,947 family food packs at its Regional Field Office III.

Additional family food packs are available at DSWD Disaster Resource Centers and other field offices for deployment to affected families in Central Luzon as needed.

Meanwhile, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has also proposed several long-term interventions to address perennial flooding in the province, including dredging works; Phase 2 of the Pampanga Delta Development Project; construction of the Central Luzon Pampanga River Floodway and Rio Chico Control Structure; construction of the Manila Bay Coastal Defense Dike Project, which will span Metro Manila, Bulacan, Pampanga, and Bataan; and construction of revetments, culverts, detention basins, and dams.
