Declogging keeps Baclaran stalls open despite rains

Vendors in Baclaran, Parañaque City kept their stalls open and continued earning despite successive heavy rains that hit Metro Manila over the past two weeks.
The absence of flooding in the busy commercial district was attributed to the continuing flood-prevention efforts of the city government under Mayor Edwin Olivarez.
Olivarez said the city has been closely monitoring drainage systems and waterways in Baclaran and other flood-prone areas to ensure the continuous flow of rainwater.
Through the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), daily declogging operations are being conducted while pipe drainage systems are also being installed to improve drainage capacity.
The mayor said these measures are particularly important in Baclaran, where thousands of vendors, workers, commuters, and shoppers converge every day.
With no floodwater disrupting the area, vendors were able to continue their operations and protect their daily income despite the frequent downpours.
Olivarez assured residents and business owners that the city government will continue its drainage maintenance, declogging operations, and other flood-control measures to minimize flooding and protect livelihoods during the rainy season.
He also called on the public to help keep drainage systems and waterways free from garbage and other obstructions that could hamper the flow of rainwater.
