BCDA taps battery maker StB GigaFactory to drive clean energy at Clark
State-run Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) is teaming up with StB GigaFactory Inc. to explore renewable energy (RE) solutions to support ongoing operations and future developments at New Clark City in Tarlac.
In a statement, BCDA said it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with StB GigaFactory on Aug. 7 to assess RE solutions, including energy storage systems and e-mobility services, designed to power future-ready industries.
The MOU is a 12-month agreement that aims to promote cleaner energy integration, grid reliability, and sustainable mobility infrastructure to establish a modern RE ecosystem in New Clark City.
“Partnering with StB GigaFactory aligns directly with our vision to make New Clark City a model of sustainable, high-tech urban development," said BCDA President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Joshua Bingcang.
Under the agreement, BCDA will grant site access, supply key project data, and provide administrative assistance to StB GigaFactory.
On the other hand, the company will oversee site surveys, technical feasibility studies, and financial modeling to formulate recommendations for clean energy deployment.
Bingcang said integrating these energy storage and clean mobility solutions is crucial to building a resilient infrastructure framework that empowers industries operating in New Clark City.
StB GigaFactory, a joint venture between Australian-based StB Capital and China-based Oli Power, was the first locator in Filinvest Innovation Park within New Clark City.
The company is the country’s first manufacturing plant for lithium iron phosphate battery cells for residential, industrial, and utility-scale battery energy storage systems.
New Clark City is expected to soon host more companies in the advanced manufacturing sector, particularly since it is the site of the proposed artificial intelligence (AI) industrial hub under the Pax Silica initiative.
The industrial hub is designed to facilitate investments in the manufacturing of AI-related components, including electronic products and semiconductors.
Beyond New Clark City, BCDA said the MOU with StB GigaFactory also aims to explore RE solutions in other developments by the state-run firm.
“By combining BCDA’s industrial land development platforms with StB GigaFactory’s localized energy storage technology, the partnership demonstrates how utility-scale renewables, energy storage, and electric mobility can be seamlessly scaled,” the agency said. (Dexter Barro II)
