NKTI reaches full bed capacity amid leptospirosis surge

The National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI) said it is operating at full bed capacity amid a surge in leptospirosis cases.
As a result, the hospital said it is limiting walk-in admissions to its emergency room until further notice.
In an advisory on Sunday, Aug. 23, the NKTI said its emergency room is also experiencing a high volume of patients.
The hospital said patients requiring urgent and critical medical interventions will be prioritized.
“To prioritize patients requiring emergency care and admission, walk-in admissions will be subject to limitations until further notice, with priority given to patients requiring urgent and critical medical interventions,” the NKTI said.
Patients seeking elective or non-emergency admission were advised to coordinate with their attending physicians.
As such, the NKTI urged them to consider other healthcare facilities with available bed capacity to avoid prolonged waiting times.
“We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience and understanding,” the hospital added.
Earlier, several areas across the country experienced flooding due to heavy rains brought by the southwest monsoon, or "habagat."
