BACOLOD CITY - A 57-year-old former overseas Filipino worker (OFW) was shot dead inside his car during a fiesta in Barangay 1-A, Manapla, Negros Occidental on Sunday, August 23.
The victim was only identified by police as Mauro, a resident of Barangay 1-A, Manapla, who had a piggery business.
Police Capt. Marion Vincent Buenaflor, Manapla police chief, said the victim was with his wife who was seated in the passenger seat, when an unidentified gunman fired at the driver’s side.
The victim initially had a bullet injury to his left ear, and was declared dead in a hospital. His wife was unharmed.
Prior to the attack, Buenaflor said the shooter was seen reportedly standing at the roadside with his getaway motorcycle parked on the opposite side of the road with an unidentified driver.
Buenaflor said they could not divulge any further information for now due to the sensitivity of the case.
But, he said that they are looking into something personal as a possible motive.
The incident happened before noon on their way home.
Recovered from the crime scene were three fired bullets of an unknown firearm. Investigation is ongoing.
