The Philippine gymnastics team bannered by brothers Carlos and Eldrew Yulo is set for a two-week training camp in Japan in preparation for the 2026 Asian Games slated next month.
Carlos Yulo disclosed this on Friday, Aug. 21, saying that the team seeks to go two weeks ahead of the artistic gymnastics competition scheduled on Sept. 20 to 25 at the Nagoya City General Gymnasium in Japan.
“Right now we're preparing po our training camp before we go to Asian Games, mauuna kami doon ng two weeks for training camp,” said Carlos, who served as a special guest during the opening day of the MPL Philippines Season 18 at the Victoria Sports Tower in Quezon City.
“Hopefully maging safe. 'Yun lang naman palagi ko ding dasal po sana mag-perform kami sa ninanais naming performance. And sana makauwi kami ng medals for the Philippines,” he added.
Carlos wasn’t able to compete in the previous edition of the Games held in Hangzhou, China in 2023 as it coincides with the world championships that served as a qualifier to the 2024 Paris Olympics.
He eventually qualified to the Olympics and won two gold medals -- a historic feat.
Despite his glittering credentials, the Asian Games gold medal is the only hardware Carlos is lacking in his medal collection.
This year’s Asian Games is also special for Carlos, who will compete alongside his younger brother.
“Of course, this is not our first time sharing the podium na. It's going to be the second. But this is the first time for us sharing the podium for Asian Games po. So I'm really excited,” said Carlos.
“Hopefully makauwi kami ng medal not just for us, but for the Philippines din po," he added.
Carlos, who was an avid MLBB player himself, was presented with an MPL Wall of Fame plaque during the press conference.
