- Julie Anne San Jose takes a more laid-back musical direction with her new single "Saglit Lang," while preparing for her 20th anniversary concert next year.
Julie Anne San Jose knows there is a lot going on around lately.
Like many people, she has also felt overwhelmed by the steady stream of bad news.
So she decided to take a step back, relax and take a breather.
That is the idea behind her new single, “Saglit Lang.”
“Ang daming nangyayari sa paligid na hindi maganda, na kung talagang iisipin mo is sobrang exasperating,” Julie Anne told us during a recent press conference.
The song is also a change of pace for the singer-actress.
Her previous releases have mostly leaned toward pop and ballads. “Saglit Lang,” however, has a more laid-back sound, with bossa nova and jazz influences.
“It’s outside my comfort zone so it is kind of a change of pace for me,” she said.
“Sobrang chill lang talaga yung kanta. And I kind of wanted a different direction or genre,” she added.
“So, ito, medyo jazzy, bossa nova ‘yung vibe. But modern pa rin.”
Julie Anne wrote the song about two months ago while recovering from an illness.
She drew inspiration from her desire to get better, as well as from her boyfriend, actor Rayver Cruz.
“Saglit Lang” also comes at a time when some of Julie Anne’s older songs have been finding new listeners online.
“I’ll Be There,” “Right Where You Belong,” “Baby U Are,” “Bakit Ngayon” and “Kung Maibabalik Ko Lang” are among the songs that have recently been getting renewed attention.
Julie Anne said she was surprised by the resurgence.
“Biglaan eh. Nagulat din lang talaga ako. But I’m so grateful din,” she said.
She has even joined in on the nostalgia, posting videos of herself singing some of her old songs while inside her car.
The renewed attention to her old music comes as Julie Anne prepares to celebrate another milestone.
She is set to mark her 20th year in show business with a concert next year, although a date has yet to be finalized.
“Pero inaayos na namin,” she said.
“Ang masasabi ko lang, it’s gonna be worth the wait. Kasi maghahanda ako, because it’s my 20th year. It’s gonna be a good one.”
For Julie Anne, the concert is something she wants to make memorable.
“I really want it to be special because it’s a special milestone para rin po sa akin at sa aking music career,” she said.
For now, she is taking things a little slower with “Saglit Lang.”
The single is now available on digital streaming platforms.
