A 33‑year‑old sales manager was arrested in Quezon City after allegedly swindling a 42‑year‑old businesswoman of P1.2 million for a supposed overseas job and condominium investment.
Police said the suspect, alias “Cris” of Makati City, gained the victim’s trust after being introduced by a mutual friend on Facebook Messenger.
The suspect allegedly collected about P1.2 million from the victim through several online transfers for supposed employment document processing and investment transactions.
On Aug. 13, the suspect allegedly sent the victim two post-dated bank checks through a delivery service as supposed reimbursement for her investment.
The checks indicated P60 million and P30 million, respectively, but the victim discovered that both were counterfeit after having them verified.
The victim then reported the incident to Batasan Police Station (PS 6).
On Aug. 20, at about 4 p.m., PS 6 personnel conducted an entrapment operation after the suspect allegedly demanded another P88,000 from the victim for the supposed processing of the Deed of Absolute Sale covering the condominium units.
The operation resulted in the suspect’s arrest.
Police recovered P2,000 in marked money, P60,000 in boodle money, and a Vivo Y04 cellular phone from the suspect.
The suspect remains in police custody and will be presented before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office for appropriate proceedings for estafa and two counts of falsification of a commercial document.
