- Viva Hot Babes members Katya Santos and Maui Taylor respond to Zsara Laxamana's "I think we're better" remark, with Katya saying, "We'll see after 20 years," while Maui reminds the VMX Babes they still have to prove themselves.
The Viva Hot Babes aren't exactly taking offense at Zsara Laxamana's declaration that the VMX Babes are “better” than their group.
In fact, Katya Santos responded with a mix of amusement and perspective when the Viva Hot Babes were asked about Zsara's remark during the media conference for their upcoming reunion concert, “Bulaklak,” on Aug. 19.
The VMX Babes are the new singing group composed of VMX stars. The group was originally called the VMX Hot Babes but dropped “Hot” from its name, reportedly out of respect for the original Viva Hot Babes, who were formed in 2003.
For Katya, there is no reason for the two groups to compete.
She said, “Ang gusto namin laging i-promote as a group is yung women empowerment. Na we have to support each other.
“Hindi dapat tayo magkaroon ng competition. Hindi tayo dapat magkaroon ng mga inggitan, yung mga mas magaling kami sa inyo.”
When asked specifically about Zsara's “I think we're better” comment, Katya offered a response that was polite but, err, pointed as well.
“You know, honestly, hindi pa namin sila nami-meet personally and hindi pa namin talaga kilala kung sino ba sila,” she said.
“So, wala kaming idea kung sino ang nagsabi. I think that’s a very nice motivation for them to say na mas magaling sila sa amin.”
Katya said the younger performers are entitled to their opinion, before delivering what may be the most memorable line of the exchange.
“But again, ito na lang. Yung sa amin siguro, we’ll see after twenty years. We want to see them after twenty years.”
“We have to say that after being here in the business ng twenty years.”
Maui Taylor, meanwhile, was more direct.
“Yung group kasi namin, proven and tested that we had hit songs, we’ve had so many hit movies on our own, we had so many hit shows,” she said.
“They need to prove that also.”
