Siblings drown at spillway while swimming in Quezon

LUCENA CITY, Quezon — Two children drowned Thursday morning, Aug. 20, while swimming at the spillway of the Lakawan River in Barangay Ilayang Dupay.

Lucena City police identified the victims as Aila, 8, and Zai, 7, residents of Purok Sentro in the same village.

At around 11 a.m., the sisters asked permission from their parents to swim at the spillway. 

When they failed to return home after two hours, their parents searched for them and found them floating unconscious in the river.

The siblings were rushed to a hospital, where they were declared dead on arrival.
