A bill seeking a P10,000 across-the-board increase in the basic monthly salary of all public elementary and secondary school teachers is now being pushed in the Senate.
Sen. Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito said Senate Bill No. 335 or “Dagdag Suweldo Para sa mga Guro” Act which he filed, primarily seeks to grant an additional P10,000 to public school teachers in their basic monthly salary, regardless of their length of service.
Ejercito said the proposal seeks to recognize the important role teachers play in educating Filipino children while addressing the economic challenges that educators face.
“Being a teacher is not easy. They bear a heavy responsibility, yet often make significant sacrifices to fulfill their duties. That is why it is time for us to better show our appreciation for them through a salary increase,” Ejercito noted.
“Every day, our teachers do more than just teach. They prepare lessons, check papers, compile reports, and above all, they care for and guide our students. We see their hard work and sacrifices,” he further said.
The senator said the measure seeks to give the teachers a better compensation to help improve their quality of life and encourage the best talents to remain in the public education system.
The lawmaker said he believes improving teachers’ economic welfare is also an investment in the country’s education system.
They also deserve to feel and know that the government values their contribution to society and the education sector.
“We cannot achieve quality education if the people on its front lines continue to struggle with their livelihood,” he said.
“To our teachers, we know that your sacrifices cannot be measured by any monetary value. But we want to show you that we have not forgotten you,” he further said.
