Having been competing in various beauty pageants for almost a decade, Katrina Llegado is not new to finishing as runner up.
Things changed when she joined Miss Supranational 2026, going on to actually win the coveted crown in Poland.
She made history while at it.
She became only the second Filipina to win the prestigious title, ending a 13-year drought for the Philippines since Mutya Datul’s victory in 2013.
During an exclusive online interview, Katrina shared what kept her grounded throughout her pageant journey.
"I think with or without the crown, I'm the type of person that is what you see is what you get. I am the type of person that's very warm, very kind, someone who's very hardworking. So I think what makes me grounded is how I was able to use what was instilled in me by my parents, the values, and of course, how I was growing up. And I'm very, very happy that the Supranational stage, the people in Poland, were able to see it firsthand," Katrina shared.
Despite not winning after several tries prior, Katrina was not eager to let go of her inner fire.
"I never won my previous pageants, but I always had the courage and determination to try again. I always gave my best in every competition I joined. This time, I’m thankful that I didn’t give up because I finally reached the highest point of my life," She said.
Despite her success, Katrina still faced criticism.
It's nothing new to her, having faced the same before, but it saddens her to see fellow Filipinos putting her down.
"Every time I joined a pageant, there were people who had opinions about me. Some were negative, while others gave constructive criticism. I’ve always been vocal about how sad it is when fellow Filipinos try to bring you down. This has been a big challenge for me," Katrina said.
While competing in Poland, Katrina shared that she tried her best to stay away from social media to keep her focus.
"Bringing the Miss Supranational crown back to the Philippines means that dreams really do come true with hard work and perseverance. It also allows me to share my story of never giving up. For the past seven years, I built my career as a beauty queen but never brought home the crown. Now, all those experiences have led me to this moment. I’m thankful that I never gave up and continued to pursue my dreams no matter what happened," she concluded.
Aside from pageantry, Katrina is also busy as businesswoman.
She hopes to work with actresses Iza Calzado and Zendaya in the future.
