Rising triathlon star Kira Ellis has withdrawn from national team duty for the upcoming Aichi-Nagoya 20th Asian Games due to knee injuries she sustained after getting hit by a car, she announced Friday, Aug. 21.
Ellis, 19, said she was hit by a car and suffered a “few broken bones and bruises” which would lead her to recover for a year.
Ellis, who won two gold and three silver medals in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games, revealed that her old injury resurfaced following the incident which also broke her bicycle.
“These past few months have been a roller coaster for me, both mentally and physically. I always tried to stay strong and push through, hoping to make a comeback in the last few months we have left of this year,” Ellis wrote.
“However, after this accident, I’ve really been forced to slow down and rest, which I now believe is much needed,” she added. Despite everything, I consider myself a very lucky girl to have walked away with only a few broken bones and bruises.”
The Queens University of Charlotte standout bared as well that she is spending this year to reset and get herself healthy before she makes her comeback in 2027.
“I have so many people to thank for helping me through these times, and you know who you are. Without you, I wouldn’t have been able to pick myself up after every setback I’ve had to face,” Ellis continued.
“It truly does take a team, and I’m so fortunate to have such an amazing family and friends helping me every step of the way,” she concluded. “This is all part of sport, and it’s not easy, but I truly would never trade it for the world. Keeping my head held high and with lots of hope for the future,” Ellis concluded.”
With Ellis out of the roster, Raven Alcoseba is the lone entry in women’s individual competition, with Fer Casares Tan and Aki Lorbes listed in the men’s side. Kim Mangrobang and Kim Remolino carry the flag in mixed relay
Ellis’ mother Doray and Mary Joana Remolino will be guiding the squad together with team manager Ting Joson in the quadrennial meet slated next month.
