Chog Moral put together his best performance in Gilas Pilipinas uniform but the boys team still fell to China, 103-117, in the quarterfinals of the FIBA U18 Asia Cup at the Veer Savarkar Stadium in Ahmedabad, India on Friday, Aug. 21.
Moral fired 26 points to go with six steals but a lethargic start spelled doom for the Filipinos who trailed by double figures in the first quarter and never got the chance to threaten against the Chinese.
Gilas trailed by as many as 24 although the team tried to mount a comeback in the fourth quarter when it cut the lead down to just 14.
That, however, was the closest the Nationals could get as they bid goodbye to their hopes of advancing to the FIBA U19 World Cup next year in the Czech Republic.
Four other Gilas players finished in double figures with Luke Atacador contributing 14 while JB Cagurungan and Ethan Aguas had 12 and George Green with 11.
Zichao Wang torched Gilas with 25 points built on six triples while Yuxiu Chen finished with 23 for China.
Gilas is now relegated to the classification matches where it will take on the loser between the quarterfinals match between New Zealand and Japan.
