Charly Suarez’s long-awaited world title shot is facing yet another uncertainty as Mexican super featherweight champion Emanuel Navarrete entered talks of a possible unification bout with fellow titlists O’Shaquie Foster.
According to multiple reports, Navarrete and Foster have already verbally agreed to the unification which would stake the former’s World Boxing Organization and International Boxing Federation belts and the latter’s World Boxing Council strap.
Navarrete’s camp had also already reached out to the WBO to formally allow him to stake his belt for the bout despite the body’s current order for him to fight No. 1 contender in Suarez.
“I believe the committee will render a decision pursuant to the WBO’s policies, rules and regulations, while serving the best interests of boxing,” said WBO president Gustavo Olivieri.
The Navarrete-Foster three-belt unification was reportedly penciled on Oct. 24 at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas.
Should the Mexican champion get the green light, it would mean that Suarez will have to wait further before finally getting the rematch he has long wanted following the controversial no-contest outcome against Navarrete in their first fight.
It will also be the second time that Suarez will give way for Navarrete’s unification bid after also allowing the Mexican to go for the blockbuster bout against the former IBF champion Eduardo Nunez.
Suarez, on the other hand, in an effort to stay in shape for the title shot, fought and defeated Manuel Avila with a first-round knockout win.
