The suspects, identified only as alias “Jon,” 23, and alias “Zed,” 20, both residents of Barangay Baesa, were nabbed at around 4 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, in a follow-up operation by Talipapa Police Station (PS 3).
The incident happened at around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday while the victim was inside her house eating when she heard unusual noises coming from one of the rooms.
When she checked, she discovered that a window not intended to serve as an entry or exit point had been opened, while the curtain had been displaced and its hooks broken.
She then looked through the window and allegedly saw two men outside the house.
One was wearing an orange-and-green long-sleeved shirt and carrying a laptop bag, while the other was dressed in black.
Lt. Col. Von Alejandrino,. chief of PS 3, said the victim shouted, “Thieves! Thieves!” after seeing the two men.
The suspects then quickly fled by jumping through the same window they allegedly used to enter the house.
The victim immediately sought help from PS 3 personnel and Barangay Public Safety Officers (BPSOs), while the incident was relayed to the police with the assistance of barangay officials.
Police reviewed barangay CCTV footage, which helped identify the two suspects.
The footage showed alias “Zed” walking along Mendez Road carrying a sling bag and was allegedly identified as the one who took the victim’s cellphone.
Alias “Jon” was also seen carrying a laptop bag and was allegedly identified as the one who took the laptop.
The two suspects allegedly also took P10,000 in cash and a pair of E.O. reading glasses worth P8,000.
Police recovered an Acer laptop and an OPPO cellphone from the suspects, but the cash and reading glasses remained unrecovered.
Alias “Jon” initially denied involvement in the incident but later allegedly admitted to the crime.
Police records also showed that he had a previous case for violation of Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
The younger suspect declined to comment when approached, saying he would explain his side in court.
The two suspects are detained at the custodial facility of PS 3 and are facing a robbery complaint before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.
