Agri, infra losses from rains hit P6.6B as 'Neneng' impact added to 'habagat,' 'Luis,' 'Maymay' – OCD

Damage to agriculture and infrastructure from the recent weather disturbances has climbed to P6.60 billion, with the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) adding the effects of Tropical Cyclone Neneng to its assessment of the overlapped impact of southwest monsoon (habagat) and cyclones “Luis” and “Maymay,” the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) announced on Friday, Aug. 21.
The OCD's latest report as of 6 a.m. placed infrastructure losses at P4,879,579,836 and agricultural damage at P1,726,292,918 – with the combined losses reaching P6,605,872,754.
The weather disturbances have affected 1,905,622 families or 6,620,335 people across 11 regions – Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Ilocos (Region 1), Cagayan Valley (Region 2), Central Luzon (Region 3), National Capital Region (NCR), Calabarzon (Region 4A), Mimaropa (Region 4B), Bicol (Region 5), Western Visayas (Region 6), Eastern Visayas (Region 8), and Zamboanga Peninsula (Region 9).
The death toll further rose to 29, while there were also 19 injured and three missing individuals.
The prolonged weather disturbance also forced thousands of families to leave their homes as the OCD reported 701 evacuation centers nationwide, housing 15,523 families or 52,543 people.
A total of 2,110 houses were damaged. Of these, 1,884 were partially damaged while 226 were totally destroyed.
The government has provided P1,020,890,674 worth of assistance to the affected communities.
88 areas under state of calamity
Meanwhile, the OCD also reported that 88 areas were under a state of calamity. including province-wide declarations in Bataan (12 areas), Bulacan (24 areas), Pampanga (21 areas), and Cavite (23 areas).
Dagupan City, four towns in Pangasinan, Masinloc in Zambales, Rodriguez in Rizal, and Nasugbu in Batangas were also listed.
The OCD said the declaration allows local governments to mobilize resources and speed up relief and recovery efforts in communities dealing with the continuing effects of the weather disturbances.
