Police arrested a 51-year-old woman after she allegedly stole a wallet from a shopper inside a convenience store in Quezon City on Tuesday, Aug. 18.
The suspect, identified as alias “Ana,” reportedly approached the victim around 10 a.m. while she was buying items and offered tissue and free vinegar, according to the Novaliches Police Station (PS 4).
As the victim’s attention was diverted, the suspect allegedly took the wallet from her eco-bag and walked away, continuing to roam inside the store.
The victim later discovered her wallet was missing and sought help from store security, who coordinated with police officers conducting visibility operations nearby.
Responding officers arrested the suspect inside the store.
Recovered from her possession were the victim’s leather wallet and Quezon City Identification Card.
Police said the suspect had prior records of violations of Republic Act No. 9165, swindling, Presidential Decree No. 1602, and 15 counts of theft.
The suspect, a resident of Barangay Fairview, Quezon City, will face a theft complaint before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.
