Oona Insurance surges into top 10 Philippine non-life insurers profit triples
Oona Insurance Philippines entered the country’s top 10 non-life insurers by net written premiums less than four years after launching operations, buoyed by surge in first-half profits and expansion across digital and traditional distribution channels.
In a statement, the Singapore-based insurer reported that it posted an 80 percent year-on-year increase in gross written premiums in the first six months of the year, while net income tripled.
The firm attributed the financial performance to accelerated top-line expansion, disciplined underwriting, and improved operational efficiency.
Digital partnerships have become an increasingly important part of Oona’s distribution strategy, allowing it to bring insurance closer to where customers live, travel, and transact, while complementing its agency, broker, and bancassurance businesses.
This multi-channel approach has supported broad-based growth across Oona’s portfolio, including motor, property, personal accident, and health insurance.
The company also launched its retail health insurance offering, broadening its product portfolio and allowing it to address a wider range of customer protection needs.
Oona’s technology platform remains central to its strategy, enabling integration with distribution partners and providing digital tools to about 2,000 agents for quoting, issuing, and servicing policies.
According to the company, the platform allows it to embed insurance into partner customer journeys, launch new solutions more quickly, and simplify access to insurance for customers.
Abhishek Bhatia, founder and group chief executive officer of Oona Insurance, said the company has spent the past four years modernizing its technology, strengthening underwriting, expanding distribution, and reshaping its Philippine business.
“Entering the country’s top 10 non-life insurers while increasing net income by 200 percent demonstrates that the transformation is delivering results,” Bhatia said.
He added that the company is entering its next phase of growth as the Oona Group evaluates acquisition opportunities across Southeast Asia.
“The Philippines remains one of Oona’s highest strategic priorities as it looks to complement its organic growth with selective acquisitions that strengthen its long-term regional platform,” the company said.
Ninoy Rollan, president and chief executive officer of Oona Insurance Philippines, said the company’s growth has been anchored on partnerships, technology, and a broader product portfolio.
“Those investments have created a more diversified business today and give us confidence that our biggest opportunities are still ahead of us,” Rollan said. (Derco Rosal)
