A 53-year-old electrician was arrested in Quiapo, Manila, after he recorded a 27-year-old woman while she was taking a bath inside a boarding house, police said.
The Manila Police District-Barbosa Police Station (PS14) identified the suspect as Romeo Sarmiento Santa-Ines, a resident of Vergara Street, Barangay 385, Quiapo.
Police said the incident happened at around 3 p.m. in the same barangay.
According to the initial investigation, the victim, identified only as “AAM,” was taking a bath when she noticed a cellular phone pointed toward her while she was naked.
The woman reportedly shouted for help, prompting her husband and brother to proceed to the adjacent room occupied by Santa-Ines.
Police said the suspect initially refused to open the door but eventually did so.
The victim’s husband then took possession of the suspect’s cellular phone.
Upon checking the device, they found a video recording of the woman while she was taking a bath.
The incident prompted concerned residents to seek assistance from barangay authorities, who subsequently contacted the police.
Authorities are preparing a criminal complaint against Santa-Ines for alleged violation of Republic Act No. 9995, or the Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act of 2009.
The case will be referred to the Manila City Prosecutor’s Office for inquest proceedings, police said.
