A 39-year-old construction worker was arrested after allegedly stabbing his 40-year-old friend, a jeepney barker, in Barangay Commonwealth, Quezon City, Wednesday night, Aug. 19, reportedly out of jealousy.
Batasan Police Station commander Lt. Col. Gemmer Tubiera said the stabbing occurred at around 8 p.m. on a roadside where the victim was working.
Police said the suspect went to the victim’s workplace and asked him to talk before allegedly bringing him to a dark portion of the road, where he stabbed the victim and fled.
The two men were reportedly drinking when the incident happened.
Investigation showed that days before the stabbing, the suspect allegedly drove the victim out of their shared residence after becoming jealous over a woman they both liked.
Tubiera said the suspect became angry after learning that the victim had been texting the woman.
The victim suffered a stab wound on his left arm and was taken to a hospital, where he is recovering.
The suspect was arrested during a follow-up operation in Fairview, Quezon City, on Aug. 19.
Police recovered from him the knife allegedly used in the stabbing, which still had bloodstains.
The suspect denied stabbing his friend, claiming that the victim slipped while holding a knife.
“I did not stab him. He was holding a knife and accidentally slipped while holding it,” he said.
He also denied that jealousy was the motive, claiming that he only intended to confront the victim after accusing him of teaching his child to steal.
“It’s not true,” he said when asked about the alleged jealousy.
The suspect remains in the custody of the Batasan Police Station and is set to face a complaint for frustrated murder.
