CEBU CITY — Parents rushed to pick up their children after a shooting incident occurred outside a school here on Thursday morning, Aug. 20.
The incident led to the suspension of classes at Don Vicente Rama High School and Don Vicente Rama Elementary School in Barangay San Nicolas.
Police said a 21‑year‑old man shot a 17‑year‑old boy just outside the school where the victim is enrolled.
Authorities noted the boy was fortunate to escape unharmed.
The suspect was later arrested. A .38‑caliber revolver with three bullets and an empty shell was recovered from him.
In Mandaue City, a private school was rocked by a shooting threat that turned out to be a hoax.
Police inspected the Sacred Heart School–Ateneo de Cebu but found no imminent danger.
The school administration said it will continue to work with authorities to ensure safety on the premises.
Authorities advised the public to remain calm following the two incidents.
Cebu City Councilor Dave Tumulak also urged residents to refrain from spreading information that may cause panic.
“We appeal to the public to avoid spreading texts or chat messages that may sow fear. But if there are unusual activities, report them immediately to the police or to the barangay,” Tumulak said.
