Zamboanga observes Day of Mourning, suspends classes

ZAMBOANGA CITY- Mayor Khymer Olaso has suspended all classes in Zamboanga City on Wednesday, August 19, and called for a Day of Mourning for the victims of the recent school shooting at the Ateneo de Zamboanga University Junior High School last Tuesday where two high school students were killed.

“Let us use this day to grieve, pray, and reflect on our shared responsibility to protect our children and uphold the sanctity of life,” said Olaso.

Olaso also expressed “profound sadness” and extended the local government’s deepest condolences to the bereaved families.

He also appealed to everyone to remain calm and compassionate and refrain from spreading unverified information and allow the proper authorities to conduct a thorough investigation.
