SAN PABLO CITY, Laguna -  Acting city mayor Carmela Acebedo took immediate action after the discovery of thousands of relief packs that have yet to be distributed to intended beneficiaries.

Based on Audit Observation Memorandum (AOM) No. 2026-009 from the Commission on Audit (COA), it was revealed that relief goods intended for Typhoon Tino remained undistributed had a total value of P22,326,950.48.

According to initial reports, these relief goods were among the items requiring action following COA observations regarding the city's management and distribution of relief supplies.

Upon assuming office as acting mayor, Acebedo immediately ordered an assessment, verification, and prompt action to ensure the proper distribution of the relief packs to qualified beneficiaries, in accordance with existing government policies and procedures.

She emphasized the importance of transparency, accountability, and the proper use of public funds—particularly regarding relief goods allocated for citizens in need during times of calamity.

The COA findings will continue to undergo appropriate review to determine accountability and ensure compliance with the audit body's recommendations.

"Every relief pack is meant for our fellow citizens in need. These should not simply be kept in storage when they could be going to families requiring assistance," Acebedo said. 

The local government asserted that subsequent steps would be carried out in accordance with the law, COA processes, and the principle of accountability for every centavo of public funds.
