Nearly 928,000 people affected by flooding, related incidents in Region 1
PANGASINAN---A total of 253,814 families or 927,943 individuals have been affected by flooding and other weather-related incidents in Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan and Dagupan, according to a consolidated report of the Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1) under the Office of Regional Director PBGen Jovencio Badua Jr.
The report covered 991 barangays, with Pangasinan accounting for the largest number of affected residents at 177,579 families or 630,734 individuals across 369 barangays. Dagupan City recorded 43,068 affected families or 174,777 individuals in 31 barangays.
The consolidated report also recorded 15 flooded areas, 116 areas where flooding had subsided, and 56 areas with receding floodwaters. There were also 15 rain-induced landslides and four incidents involving fallen debris or trees.
Pangasinan reported 14 flooded areas, 29 areas where floodwaters had subsided and 24 areas with receding water. In Dagupan, floodwaters were reported as receding in 31 areas.
Meanwhile, 221 road sections and eight bridges were affected. Of these, 36 road sections and two bridges remained impassable, while 185 road sections and six bridges were reported passable or had previously been declared not passable or partially passable.
In Pangasinan, 22 road sections remained impassable, while 29 road sections and three bridges were reported passable.
The report also documented 359 damaged houses, including 331 partially damaged and 28 totally damaged structures. Pangasinan accounted for 130 damaged houses—124 partially damaged and six totally damaged.
Agricultural damage was also significant, with 11,105 farmers and fisherfolk affected and 5,322.42 hectares of crops impacted. Pangasinan accounted for 4,302.43 hectares of affected crop area and an estimated 3,019.71 metric tons in production losses, with damage valued at about P159.79 million.
The report further showed that one death had been validated, while one injury remained for validation.
Two seaports were also affected, with one reported non-operational or with canceled trips and the other already operational or with trips resumed.
The figures were presented in the consolidated situational report of PRO1, covers the effects of the southwest monsoon (Habagat) and Tropical Cyclones Luis and Maymay in the Ilocos Region as of 6 p.m. on August 17.
It summarizes the reported incidents, affected areas, and ongoing response operations of local authorities and disaster response teams across the region amid continued adverse weather conditions.
