- Kris Lawrence's new single "Unlove You" takes on added interest amid renewed reconciliation buzz with ex-partner Katrina Halili, the mother of his daughter Katie.
Everyone has a TOTGA, you know, the one that got away.
It’s that unforgettable person you once imagined as your “happy ever after,” but who, by fate or circumstance, eventually took a different road. You move on, life happens, and yet somehow, that person still manages to occupy a little corner of your mind.
That is exactly what singer-songwriter Kris Lawrence tackles in his latest single, “Unlove You,” a collaboration with Grammy Award-winning songwriter Lil Eddie.
Note their renewed friendship has become a viral topic, with fans of their “Mr. and Ms. B” online loveteam hoping that their closeness could eventually lead to reconciliation.
Katrina, however, has said she would rather not rush things.
Interestingly, Kris’ latest single happens to be about an ex who remains difficult to let go of.
Is it about Katrina?
He’s not saying.
Kris prefers to leave it open, allowing listeners to apply the song to their own stories and situations.
Without naming names or referring to any particular situation, he explained, “It’s about that one ex that you can never unlove, ‘the one that got away.’”
Kris and Lil Eddie have worked together before, with the latter also co-writing Kris’ 2025 single “Nobody,” which was inspired by Katie.
For “Unlove You,” Lil Eddie wrote the song in about two hours. Kris and his US-based producer Chokobeats then built the track around the guitar lick heard at the beginning.
“From idea to finished product, it took two days,” Kris says.
“He’s probably the best writer I’ve ever worked with,” he adds of Lil Eddie. “He’s a multi-Grammy-award winning writer, so it’s definitely an honor working with him.”
Prior, Lil Eddie worked with the likes of Usher, Janet Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, Maluma, Daddy Yankee and Britney Spears.
They recorded “Unlove You” in the US last year.
The song was released on Spotify on June 24, with music and lyric videos also available on YouTube.
Meanwhile, the renewed friendship between Kris and Katrina continues to attract attention online.
Kris says he is grateful for the positive response to their interactions.
“I feel so grateful that we’re being received so positively by netizens,” he says. “It makes us feel like what we’re doing is headed in the right direction. Where it leads, we don’t know, but we’re kinda just going with the flow.”
For now, one person who appears happy with where things are is their daughter Katie.
Kris says the 13-year-old is genuinely happy seeing her parents in a good place.
“You can see it in the way she smiles, the way she laughs, and the sense of security she carries,” he says.
He also credits the effort he and Katrina have made to maintain a peaceful relationship for their daughter.
“Katrina and I have worked hard to create that kind of environment for her, and we’ve seen beautiful progress—not because of one person, but because of consistency, patience and love,” Kris says.
Whether Kris and Katrina eventually reconcile remains to be seen.
For now, Kris is making his intentions clear, Katrina is taking her time, and fans are watching closely.
Kris is gearing up for a series of shows, including NOCTOS on September 10 and 11, followed by dates in Chicago on October 16, Toronto with Lil Eddie on October 17, Bakersfield, California on October 23, and Alaska on October 25.
