Epson Precision Philippines Inc. (EPPI) is investing over ₱40 million to expand its Batangas manufacturing footprint beyond precision printing and into robotics, according to the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA).
In a statement, the investment promotion agency said PEZA Director General Tereso Panga and EPPI President Yushi Irie signed a supplemental agreement on Aug. 13 for the new manufacturing project at the Lima Technology Center-Special Economic Zone (LTC-SEZ).
The expansion involves producing various industrial robots, including Selective Compliance Articulated Robot Arm (SCARA) and six-axis models, at the Batangas facility. It will also manufacture component parts, subassemblies, spare parts, and after-sales service parts to support the robotics lineup, which is crucial for high-speed precision assembly.
Commercial operations are scheduled to begin in March next year and are projected to generate around 118 jobs.
“Epson has been part of the PEZA family since 1995, and today we welcome them into an entirely new chapter of reinventing itself and moving up the value chain, from precision printing to precision robotics,” Panga said.
Panga added that the expansion of EPPI’s incentive-eligible facilities represents the exact growth PEZA aims to foster across its economic zone locators.
“PEZA will always be here to support this kind of forward-looking investment, because when our locators grow bolder, our economy grows stronger with them,” he said.
EPPI, the local subsidiary of Japanese manufacturing giant Seiko Epson Corp., established operations at LTC-SEZ in 1997 as its pioneering and largest locator. Its 33-hectare facility houses three factories and currently employs over 20,000 workers, assembling printers, scanners, and projectors for export to Japan and distribution across Southeast Asia.
PEZA noted that EPPI’s move into robotics further integrates the Philippines into the global supply chain for advanced manufacturing.
“It likewise signals strong confidence in the Philippines as a hub for advanced manufacturing, and highlights PEZA’s role in enabling global firms to expand into higher-value, future-ready industries as automation and Industry 4.0 reshape global production,” the agency said.
