Bulacan governor calls for vigilance as floods swamp over 100 barangays
Bulacan Governor Daniel R. Fernando on Wednesday, August 19, called on residents to take all necessary measures to safeguard life and property amid monsoon rains, as more than 100 barangays across the province are now under floodwaters.
Fernando advised the public to closely monitor heavy rainfall warnings, thunderstorm advisories, and other severe weather bulletins, and to immediately contact their local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices in case of emergencies.
In line with Memorandum Circular No. 129, provincial offices have shifted to Work From Home (WFH) arrangements, while schools adopted Alternative Delivery Modes (ADM) due to the continuous rains brought by the southwest monsoon or Habagat.
According to the latest report of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), more than 100 barangays across Bulacan remain submerged in floodwaters, including villages in Malolos City, Paombong, Bocaue, Guiguinto, Pulilan, and Balagtas.
Calumpit and Hagonoy have already been placed under a state of calamity.
The council, after assessing an estimated P279.49 million in damage to agriculture, fisheries, livestock, poultry, and infrastructure, recommended the preparation of a resolution declaring a state of calamity for the province.
In Santa Maria, overnight rains left low‑lying and riverside areas inundated. Residents were urged to stay alert, heed official advisories, and prepare for immediate evacuation if ordered.
Motorists were likewise cautioned to slow down on flooded roads, as deep potholes hidden underwater pose risks of accidents.
