ABS-CBN set to bring back 'Gandang Gabi Vice' on GMA

Vice Ganda is bringing back “Gandang Gabi Vice,” six years after the popular late-night show ended its original run.

ABS-CBN chief operating officer Cory V. Vidanes confirmed the comeback during the company’s stockholders’ meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 19.

“Yes, ‘Gandang Gabi Vice,’ the new season, will come back next month on GMA, iWant, and Kapamilya Channel,” Vidanes said.

The show ended in March 2020 after nine years on ABS-CBN.

Vice had said at the time that “GGV will be back” after a “mahabang commercial break.”

That commercial break is finally ending.

The return is significant not because ABS-CBN content airing on GMA is new. The two networks have been working together on various programs since ABS-CBN lost its broadcast franchise, with GMA becoming one of the platforms where ABS-CBN-produced shows can reach free-TV viewers.

What makes the latest announcement interesting is the franchise itself.

“Gandang Gabi Vice” was one of Vice Ganda’s biggest television vehicles and became closely associated with his brand of comedy and celebrity interviews. Its return gives ABS-CBN another established entertainment property to bring back at a time when the company is increasingly operating as a content producer and distributor across different platforms.

The show will now have three outlets: GMA, iWant and Kapamilya Channel.

The arrangement also comes as ABS-CBN continues to expand its collaborations with other media companies.

During the same stockholders’ meeting, Vidanes confirmed that “Pinoy Big Brother Collab 3.0” will launch in October in partnership with GMA.

The next “PBB” season will also move into a new house, which Vidanes described as more cost-efficient for ABS-CBN.

ABS-CBN chief partnerships officer Roberto V. Barreiro was also asked whether the company is looking at deeper joint ventures with GMA and MediaQuest covering television, streaming, film, music, live events and talent and content production.

He did not confirm any specific joint venture.

“As a content company, ABS-CBN will continue to explore opportunities to create more content and serve its various publics as best as it can,” Barreiro said. “We are therefore open to working with other media entities under terms that are beneficial to our company.”

For now, one of those opportunities is a familiar one.

“Gandang Gabi Vice” is coming back.

The new season is expected to premiere in September.
